It concluded that, "The findings for varenicline, combined with other problems with its safety profile, render it unsuitable for first-line use in smoking cessation." November 24, 2011 - The FDA issues a "Safety Announcement" that although new hospitalization study of risk of neuropsychiatric adverse events found no difference between Chantix and NRT, that the study does "not rule out an increased risk of other neuropsychiatric events with Chantix."
