Stairwell battery room half-consumed by scrubA multi storey timber stairwell at the Braidwood Hotel, its white painted balustrades and turned balusters wrapping around a central void as the treads descend toward a dark lower landing. Bare timber, peeling render, and water staining mark the walls. Built in 1859 as the Commercial Hotel during the Gold Rush expansion of Wallace Street, the building has operated continuously ever since. Part of the Braidwood Hotel series.
