The original was done with transparent washes of acrylic paints that allowed the map to show through

The original New Mexico gray Mountains was painted on a road map of New Mexico

Silver colored raised metal is applied to the mountain peaks as the embellishment

It was one of the first two Colorado maps that I painted with the intention of having it professionally photographed for reproductions. The other one is the Colorado Spring Map. You can see the similarity in the design. Not all maps turn out good enough to use. Sometimes I accidently tear the paper map beyond repair, but these two turned out great and have been favorites
